February 2, 2012 Presenter – Tony Frontier - Author
Dr. Tony Frontier is an assistant professor of doctoral leadership studies and director of teacher education at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he teaches courses in curriculum development, organizational learning, research methods, and statistics.
He began his career in education in 1994, teaching at Roosevelt Middle School of the Arts in the Milwaukee Public Schools. He served two years as an associate principal at Whitefish Bay High School in Whitefish Bay, Wis., and served nine years as the director of curriculum and instruction for the School District of Whitefish Bay.
He has been recognized by Marquette University as the Outstanding Young Alumnus for the School of Education, was the recipient of the Jack Keane Outstanding Young Educator Award for the State of Wisconsin, was selected as an ASCD Emerging Leader, is a member of the ASCD Leadership Council and has served as President of Wisconsin ASCD.
He received a bachelor’s degree with majors in sociology and mass communications from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, post-baccalaureate teacher certification from Marquette
University, and a master’s degree in educational leadership and a PhD in leadership for the advancement of learning and service from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee.

Northern Illinois University School of Music Rosebud Foundation Jazztet
The Northern Illinois University School of Music formed the Liberace Jazztet in August 2001 upon receiving a generous grant from the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts. This support was renewed annually until 2010. It now receives annual funding from the Rosebud Foundation, and was renamed “The NIU Rosebud Foundation Jazztet” in 2011. This group is comprised of senior/graduate level students in the NIU School of Music, and the individual students are recognized as “Jazztet Scholars.” The Jazztet is a perfect complement to an outstanding jazz program that is coordinated by internationally renowned jazz educator, Ronald Carter. The NIU graduate jazz studies program has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the ten best in the nation every year since 1997.
The NIU Jazztet has performed by invitation at the world’s first venue designed specifically for the acoustics of jazz, Jazz at Lincoln Center (Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola) (March 2005, & June 2008 ). The Jazztet has also performed at the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival, as one of 39 ensembles from six states, and they were chosen as one of the three “Outstanding” ensembles to perform on the final Awards/Showcase Concert for seven consecutive years. Additional invited performances by the NIU Jazztet include the Iowa City Jazz Festival (July 2006), the Festival Jazz en Lima 2004 in Peru (April 2004, 2009), JVC Jazz Festival in New York City (June 2003 & 2008); 2008 Clark Terry Jazz Festival in Pine Bluff Arkansas, the International Association of Jazz Educators Conference in Toronto (January 2003) and the Bogata Colombia Jazz Festival in September 2009, and the Detroit Jazz Festival in 2011. In its years of existence, the NIU Jazztet will have completed invited performances in Illinois, Missouri, California, New York, Canada, and Peru and Colombia.
The NIU Jazztet has released three CD recordings. NIU Jazz Studies coordinator, Ronald Carter, served as producer of the recording and mentor to the performers. The third CD was released on November 2010, entitled “Equity”. Present members of the group include, students leaders, William Sims (Saxophone), and Luke Polipnik (Guitar), Collin Clauson (Piano), Christopher Johnson (trombone), Daniel Lopatka (Bass), Victor Lejeune (trumpet), Daniel Henson (drums).
The outstanding NIU Jazz Faculty includes Ronald Carter (Director of jazz Studies/ saxophone/conductor/combos), Rodrigo Villanueva (drum set/arranging/conductor/ combos), Rich Moore (saxophone), Robert Chappell (piano/jazz theory), Fareed Haque (guitar/combos/improvisation), Willie Pickens (piano), Tom Garling (trombone, combos), Kelly Sill (bass, combos), Art Davis (trumpet/jazz history/improvisation/combo coordinator) and Greg Beyer ( latin jazz).
